When British Telecom threatened to remove the telephone boxes in Sheviock, Crafthole and Portwrinkle the Parish Council listened to public concerns and ideas. As a result we lobby strongly and successfully to keep the Telephone box in Portwrinkle on the grounds of public safety and the box in Sheviock because it was Listed.
Keeping the telephone box in Crafthole was more difficult to justify and little objection to its loss. British Telecom offered unwanted telephone boxes to the Parish Council for £1.00. When a parishioner suggested that the council bought the box and turned it into a Tourist Information Centre the box was purchased and the idea turned into a reality with a small cost for its refurbishment.
The centre if now a great success, helping tourist and supporting local businesses. A great example of being a listening council and implementing great ideas.
